GLASS FUSION

Referred to as "warm glass," glass fusion is one of the oldest forms of glass making.
Warm glass refers to fusing, slumping, and other kiln forming glass techniques which take place at temperatures between 1100 and 1700 degrees Fahrenheit.
Glass fusion is the result of using a kiln to join pieces of glass.

When glass is heated it softens at first and will become more fluid when continued heat is applied.
Several pieces of glass are laid together and heated in a kiln - they will fuse to one another. Using the right kind of glass properly heated and cooled will result in a solid and unbroken piece of glass art.
Other techniques :
Slumping : The already fused glass is manipulated into the shape of a plate, a bowl or similar object by using a mold.
Combing : The shape of the glass is distorted while still white hot.
Fire polishing : the term used for the process of using the kiln to heat the glass enough to make it shiny and smooth.
Glass fusion is a very fascinating and inspiring art form which has become immensely popular over the past years. Why not sign up for a course ?
